BOSTON -The Beanpot Committee announced today, January 30, that Boston Bruins defenseman Matt Grzelcykhas been selected as the 2023 Beanpot Hall of Fame inductee.

In a first for the Beanpot Hall of Fame, Grzelcyk's father, John Grzelcyk, will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame for 2023. John has been a member of TD Garden's bullgang, the crew famous for flipping the ice to parquet in record time, for 55 years. Known best as 'Grizzy,' he has seen many talented hockey players on and off the ice, but watching his son score the game-winning goal in 2015 during the Beanpot is easily one of his top three favorite moments, along with Grzelcyk joining the Boston Bruins.
"On behalf of Boston University, I want to congratulate Matt and John on becoming the newest members of the Beanpot Hall of Fame," said Boston University Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello. "Matt's overtime winner in the 2015 Beanpot final remains one of the most memorable goals in program history and it's been a pleasure to watch him continue to shine in Boston with the Bruins. For over 50 years, John has been one of those people behind the scenes who have made The Beanpot iconic. He's a Boston institution himself. The Grzelcyks are a special family to all of us at BU, and for them to be inducted together is wonderful and is the perfect way to recognize two people who have left an indelible legacy on both the Beanpot and the TD Garden."
Grzelcyk, who was originally selected by the Boston Bruins in the third round (85th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, played four seasons with Boston University from 2012-16. In that time, Grzelcyk made three appearances in the Beanpot Tournament, most notably in 2015 when he was named the Beanpot MVP after scoring the game-winning goal of the championship game. The goal, his second of the game against Northeastern, captured Boston University's 30th Beanpot Championship title and first since 2009.
"I want to congratulate Matt Grzelcyk on his induction into the Beanpot Hall of Fame," said Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney. "As a hometown boy raised in Charlestown, Matt has made an indelible mark on hockey in New England and when Matt decided to attend BU, he knew very well of the history and legacy of the Beanpot. Matt went on to write himself into Beanpot history in scoring the winning goal against Northeastern, and earning MVP honors. It with great pride that the Boston Bruins congratulate Matt and the Grzelcyk family for their induction into the Beanpot Hall of Fame!"
Grzelcyk finished his collegiate career with 26 goals and 69 assists for 95 points through 125 games, while also serving as captain for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.
"I'm thrilled for both Matt and John on their well-deserved induction intto the Beanpot Hall of Fame," said Boston University Head Coach Jay Pandolfo. "Matt was a tremendous player at BU who I got to coach during my time with the Bruins, and he has grown into an outstanding professional who will have a long and successful NHL career. I also got to know John when I was with the Bruins, and his work ethic and dedication to the TD Garden is second to none."
The Charlestown, Massachusetts natives will be presented their awards during a ceremony in between the semifinal games on Monday, February 6 at TD Garden.
